Caring For A Maple Bonsai Tree

Bonsai trees, when properly managed, are breath taking with their astounding beauty. In order to reach such a degree of beauty, they require a great deal of loving care and attention. Maple bonsai trees are very beautiful and lively as well. This is one of most leafy trees, which is why it is well appreciated by many. Also, you can watch their leaves change color to yellow and red around fall.

In order for the beauty of the maple bonsai trees to be maintained, you need to know how to properly grow them. Maple bonsai trees are in need of proper amounts of both sunlight and shade so they will live longer. In winter, you need to attend to the roots of maple bonsai trees. These maple bonsai trees cannot endure too much cold so it is better to not water them too much during the winter season.

Moreover, you must be aware that maple bonsai trees prefer moist soil. For this reason, you should water them daily in other seasons to provide for their needs. Also, check the drainage from time to time for you do not want to drown your maple bonsai tree. Due to their leafy nature, maple bonsai trees are considered as informal uprights. You can cascade these trees if you want. However, just be careful because you might end up splitting the trunk if you fail to handle the roots delicately.

Sometimes people even wire a maple bonsai tree into a curve. This may look unnatural and unpleasant for a tree though. Instead, you can prune it and you can work towards its curve if for instance that you might want to cascade it. Upon doing this, just make sure that you practice the proper caution needed so as not to cause trauma to the tree.

A maple bonsai tree is to be fed once a month. Fertilizer is required in order to ensure the appropriate growth of the maple bonsai tree. Also make sure to trim and prune back the roots and leaves as often as needed. If you are clueless on when to do the pruning, fall and winter would be great for these are the times when most leaves are dropping off on their own. Your maple bonsai tree will need to be repotted every once in a while. Moreover, when repotting your maple bonsai tree, use a mixture of sand, soil, and peat to avoid problems. Also, do this annually just to be sure.

If you are having a hard time with your maple bonsai tree, you should get a consult from a garden shop or a botanist. Keeping your maple bonsai tree healthy and looking beautiful is a skill which takes constant work; but is well worth it in the end.
