Caring For A Juniper Bonsai Tree

In order for you to successfully take good care of your bonsai tree, you must be certain that you are dedicated and committed to the responsibility. You can't be interested in it one day and not the next. Also, it is a good idea to do research on your particular type of bonsai tree so you will know how to properly care for it and keep it alive and thriving.

If you are wondering what type of tree to select for your first bonsai tree consider the Juniper bonsai tree. It is easy to look after and it does not require as much effort and hard work. It will allow you to learn the basics of growing since it is fairly easy to keep alive.

First, you should make it a point to give it enough sun exposure. Also, water it daily so the soil would be moist enough for the Juniper bonsai tree. From time to time you should check the bottom of the container to make sure the excess water is draining properly. You should also feed the Juniper bonsai tree every two to four weeks to give it the nutrients that it needs. There are some who use fertilizer in the soil but this is not highly recommended so ask the experts first before doing this.

When repotting your Juniper bonsai tree, do not rush to add fertilizers right away. You should wait until the normal time for you to feed your plant. Also, do not make use of harsh chemicals that can severely damage your plant. Furthermore, do not put anything in the mixture without measuring it first. Everything shall be in the proper amount to ensure the safety of your Juniper bonsai tree. While repotting, trim the roots so they will not overgrow. Moreover, if your Juniper bonsai tree is ten years old, you might think about repotting every two years or so. As always, it is best to use a mixture of sand, peat, and soil.

You need to prune excess branches as well for aesthetic purposes. You just have to be careful and gentle at all times to avoid the Juniper bonsai tree from being traumatized. Depending on how fast the Juniper bonsai tree is growing, you should not prune more often than every couple of weeks. While doing this, be careful not to put too much pressure on the branches because you might break one accidentally.

If your Juniper bonsai tree is being affected by pests, you could dissolve tobacco in water and splash it over the Juniper bonsai tree. If it fails to work, consult a horticulturist for a solution to your pest problem.
